The Department of Business Finance has emerged as one of the five Departments in the Faculty of Management focusing on the disciplines of Accounting and Finance. It offers courses for both undergraduate as well as postgraduate programs to provide students with adequate knowledge and skills in relation to Financial Accounting, Management Accounting, Corporate Governance, Auditing, Taxation and Corporate Finance. Over the years, there has been a great demand for the specialization area in Accounting and Finance offered by the Department from the high performing students. In future, the Department aims to capitalize on this competitiveness to produce high quality graduates to meet the demand for accountants and finance managers in the local and the global arena. In doing so, the Department intends to build up strong ties with the professional organizations and the industry. In addition, the Department seeks to develop a strong research culture advancing the current knowledge in Accounting and Finance within the purview of benefiting organizations and societies.

2nd year undergraduates of Department of Business Finance visited the Central Bank of Sri Lanka and Bank of Ceylon head office on 30th of November 2022. Through this filed visit students gained a practical exposure on how the banking system in Sri Lanka works by attending the lecture conducted by Deputy Director of CBSL, Dr.Lankapathy Sritharan and by visiting the dealing room of BOC Treasury Department. Also, the knowledge on history of Sri Lankan currency was fine-tuned by visiting to the currency museums of CBSL and BOC.

The Annual General Meeting of the Accounting and Finance Students’ Society, Department of Business Finance, Faculty of Management ,University of Peradeniya was held on 28th January 2022 at 6.30 pm via the Zoom platform. The meeting was held under the patronage of Mrs. Sujeewa Kodithuwakku, the Head of the Department of Business Finance . Outgoing President, Mr. M.J.M. Shihab delivered the welcome speech and outgoing secretary Ms. Poorni Abeykoon read the minutes of the previous meeting. As the primary task, the office bearers for the term 2022 were appointed at the meeting. As the President of the society, Ruwan Wijethunga was appointed, and Imasha Dheerawardana was appointed as the secretary of the society. Dinuk Koumika and Rachini Fernando was appointed as the Vice President and Assistant Secretary respectively. Furthermore, as the Junior Treasurer, Viraj Maduranga was appointed, and Nuwan Wijesekara was appointed for the position of Editor of the society.
