The Faculty of Management offers five special degree programs to the students who are enrolled in the Faculty. During Year 1, the Faculty offers a common study program for all the students, by sharing the courses among the five Departments. Based on the students’ specialization preferences and the performance in Year 1 they are selected to one of the five departments to specialize in one of the specialization areas namely: Accounting & Finance, Human Resource Management, Marketing Management, Operations Management, and Organizational Management. After successful completion of all the courses in one year common and three years’ specialization programs totaling up to 120 credits, students will be qualified for the award of the BBA Honors degree in their area of specialization.

Business Economics (MGS 1102) has been developed to meet the scope and sequence of a preliminary economics course. This is a compulsory unit for the 100 level of the Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) degree programme offers by the Faculty of Management, University of Peradeniya. This aspect of unit deals with fundamentals of economics that enables student to learn and rehearse both microeconomics - study of the economic behavior of individual units of an economy and macroeconomics - study of how the aggregate economy behaves as a whole in a collective sphere. The microeconomics section of this course will provide an overview of the behavior of individuals/households and firms, and their impact on prices, and the supply and demand for goods and services. Further, it presents possible applications of consumer and producer behavior adjoin to different market structures. The macroeconomics section will provide an overview of the determination of output, employment, unemployment, interest rates, and inflation. In addition to that the lesson plans elaborates further macroeconomic theories/concepts such as IS-LM model, international trade and economic growth. The course, HRM 2203: Soft Skills Development is an elective two credit course offered to 200 level students specialized in Human Resource Management in the Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) Honors Degree Programme. The aim of this course is to provide hands on practical exposure to the second year undergraduates to reach success in their future careers. This is an optional course for the undergraduates who are specialized in human resource management. This course covers modernized concepts under soft skills development which are useful to develop the professional careers of the students. Also it helps to discover their different personality traits and to reform new traits which are required to match with the corporate world. The main aim of this course is to enhance the personality and soft skills by undertaking portfolio of career advancement activities. This course covers an introduction to personality and skills development, Personal branding, Career planning, Emotional first aid at work, facing an interview and writing a winning resume, Personality Disorders, Corporate ethics, time management, Positive political skills, Personal grooming and social etiquettes, Work life blending, Public speaking, Aesthetic session, Team work, and Innovations and Creativity in the business world. The course, HRM 2204: Social Changes and Human Resource Management is an elective two credit course offered to 200 level students specialized in Human Resource Management in the Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) Honors Degree Programme. The aim of this course is to provide students the knowledge on ever changing social context and its impacts on managing human resources in an organization. More specifically, the course begins with an introduction to the social change and HRM discussing nature of social change in Sri Lanka, nature and role of Sri Lankan family structure, major institutions that influence on social change and their implication on redefining HRM. The course continues further workforce diversity, demographical changes, aging population, gender equity, changing life styles and equal opportunities. The course, HRM 3101: Employment Law is a compulsory three credit course for 300 level students specialized in Human Resource Management in the Bachelor of Business of Business Administration (BBA) Honors Degree Programme. The aim of the course is to provide students the knowledge and understanding of labour laws in Sri Lanka and to demonstrate the ability to comply with legal aspects of managing human resources. The course, HRM 3102: Career Management is an elective two credit course for 300 level students specialized in Human Resource Management in the Bachelor of Business of Business Administration (BBA) Honors Degree Programme. The aim of the course is to develop competences among undergraduates in identifying, designing, & implementing an integrated career management strategy to ensure long-term career success. More specifically, this course begins with an introduction to career management followed by defining career, career goals, career planning and career management. In addition, it consists self-assessment theories, career building, exploring career opportunities, personal development plan, career development strategies, setting short-term & long -term career goals, and designing a career plan. Later, this course continues with the discussion of interviewing skills & resume preparation, internships, job search, summer placements, networking and developing a personal brand & communicating. Upon successful completion of the course students will be able to identify their strengths, weaknesses, interests, & values contribute to a potential career and develop competencies in the areas of interviewing skills, resume preparation & networking skills. In this course, student will be given research articles from different key areas such as, employee resourcing, performance management, reward management, health and safety issues, talent management, employer branding, human capital management, succession management, human resource outsourcing, sustainability and HRM, corporate downsizing, work-life balance, work-force diversity, changing skill requirements, and change management. The course, HRM 4299: Internship in HRM is an elective six credit course for 400 level students specialized in Human Resource Management in the Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) Honors Degree programme. The aim of this course is to provide students an opportunity to expose themselves to the practical field of HRM prevalent at workplace, and to come up with their own perspective to resolve the problems by participating the internship. Students are requested to work in the assigned industries to them for a period of 15 weeks (600 hours) full-time during the second semester of the fourth year. They are required to maintain a diary relating to the experience they obtain. In addition, students are required to produce a project report and make two formal presentations of their experience and findings to the department at the interim and the final evaluation. Industries in which students are undergoing internship are expected to send a confidential report to the department. The students are assessed with an Interim Presentation (10%), Duly Completed Internship Diary (15%), Employer’s Confidential Report (10%), Internship Project Report (50%) and Final Presentation and Examination (15%)
The course, HRM 4099: Independent Research Project in HRM is a six credit core course for 400 level students specialized in Human Resource Management in the Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) Honors Degree programme. The aim of this course is to provide students an opportunity to conduct scholarly research on topics related to Human Resource Management. This Independent Research Project enables students to apply their theoretical knowledge and gain an in-depth understanding of the field of HRM. Each student will be allocated an academic staff member to provide support and guidance. Students are required to submit a research proposal during the first semester of final year and based on the feedback for the proposal, they will carry out the independent research project throughout the second semester. This course is delivered through lectures, discussion classes, seminars, workshops etc. The students are assessed in research proposal (40%) and final research project (60%).
