The 3000 Level and 4000 Level BBA undergraduates who are specializing in Marketing Management and the academic staff of the Department of Marketing Management, University of Peradeniya, went on a field visit to Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA) on the 14th of June 2023. The aim of the field visit was to provide exposure to a practical set-up with respect to marketing discipline so that the students will be able to grasp the taste of real marketing applications. Specifically, this hands-on experience allowed the students to witness the practical application of marketing theories in the aviation industry.
The field visit was mainly facilitated by Airport & Aviation Services (Sri Lanka) (Private) Limited (AASL) and Sri Lankan Airlines, where the students were able to explore the entire process at BIA with the visit to the terminal, duty-free shops and the lounges, different airport divisions and gained valuable insights into Sri Lankan Airlines’ marketing practices, with a special focus on services marketing aspects. Moreover, the undergraduates were given the opportunity to experience the Sri Lankan Airlines’ Flight Simulator and the Engineering Hangar.
