The Department of Marketing Management recently hosted an enriching three seminars focusing on important aspects of Sales and Retail Management to offer updated and practical insights for the 4000 level students specializing in Marketing Management. Ms. Yamuna Lenaduwa, a Gemologist cum Business Development Specialist from Muthukaruppan Chetteiar Jewellers, conducted the first session on "Selling in the Gem and Jewellery Industry," emphasizing that successful selling involves transferring enthusiasm from the seller to the buyer, a principle she has demonstrated through her career from a trainee to a professional marketer. The second seminar was conducted by Mr. Darshana Samararathne, Senior Channel Manager at HEMAS Holdings PLC and he addressed the "Shopper Behavior in FMCG industry and Sales Challenges. He stressed the importance of adapting quickly to crises, capitalize market changes, adoption of public relations, and respond to supply chain disruptions to achieve higher sales performance. The third seminar was conducted by Mr. Kanishka Bandara who is an IT Executive for Sales Automation at Nestle Lanka Limited, and he discussed "Merchandising for Enhancing Retail Performance," showcasing how Point of Sales Materials (POSM) and Point of Sales Purchase Equipment (POPE) can enhance retail success, using Nestle Lanka’s practices. This seminar series provided valuable insights and practical understanding with respect to sales and retail management.
