We are a multi-disciplinary Department with a strong focus on Operations Management and Decision Sciences. Under the former, we explore the interface between Innovation and Operations, and engage in enquiries on the core concepts of Operations Management. We deal with key techniques of Decision Sciences in the latter in order to evaluate alternatives and make recommendations on competitive priorities. Our teaching and research cover a range of field across these two disciplines such as Design and Management of Supply Chain Networks, Design of Products, Processes, Layout and Resource Planning, Quality planning, Lean Systems and Managing Improvement, Project Management and Operations scheduling, Decision Sciences, and Entrepreneurship and Tourism Management.

The 32nd Department Seminar of the Department of Operations Management was held on the 14th of October 2024 from 3 p.m. to 4.30 p.m. in the Boardroom of the Faculty of Management. The Department of Operations Management in collaboration with Airport & Aviation Services Sri Lanka (Pvt) Ltd organized a field visit to the Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA), Katunayake on the 23rd of June 2023 for the 3000 Level undergraduates specializing in Operations Management. The main purpose of this visit was to provide students with practical exposure to the operations and different supporting processes of an international airport.
The Department of Operations Management in collaboration with Omega Line Pvt Ltd, Sandalankawa organized a field visit on the 06th of June 2023 for the 4000 Level undergraduates specializing in Operations Management. The main purpose of this visit was to provide the students with practical exposure to the manufacturing process of a garment manufacturing plant.

The main aim of the event was to disseminate knowledge in the area of Lean Management for staff and students.
The Department of Operations Management in collaboration with the Geragama Tea Factory organized a field visit on 23 rd November 2022 for 1 st year undergraduates who follow the course OPM 1202: Operations Management. The main purpose of this visit was to provide the students with a practical exposure on the manufacturing process of a tea processing factory.

Kumarasiri where she presented a Management Field Project titled, "Cut Panel Wastage in the Off-Site Embellishment Process of a Leading Apparel Manufacturing Company in Sri Lanka". The Department of Operations Management, Faculty of Management, University of Peradeniya organized a guest lecture for the final year students of the B.Sc. Honours in Computation & Management degree programme offered by the Faculty of Science, University of Peradeniya. The resource person was Mr. Rajiv Weragama who is a Senior Engineer in Service Assurance and Fulfillment at Sri Lanka Telecom PLC. The main purpose of this guest lecture was to introduce Telecommunication, Internet, and Wireless technologies, and explain their evolution and application to day-to-day business activities.
The Department of Operations Management, Faculty of Management, University of Peradeniya, under the Department AHEAD project, organized a field visit to Heritance Tea Factory, Kandapola, Nuwara Eliya, on the 06th of October 2022 for the 3000 level BBA undergraduates who followed the OPM 3102: Hospitality Management course. The field visit was arranged under the supervision of Prof. Ravi Kuruppuge, Head, Department of Operations Management, and the programme was conducted by Mr. Chature Seneviratne, Human Resource & Administration Manager, Heritance Tea Factory, Kandapola, Nuwara Eliya.
The importance of the English Language for management professionals in the 21 st century cannot be in any way compromised. A course oriented to improve the personality of the Operations Management undergraduates was therefore drafted by Professor Sreemali Herath, University of Manitoba, under the Department AHEAD Project, Department of Operations Management, Faculty of Management, University of Peradeniya. This will be offered as an optional course for final-year undergraduates in the future.

The Misfit EconomyBook Review
The 22nd Department Seminar of the Department of Operations Management was held on the 31st of August 2022 from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. in the Faculty Board Room. The session was conducted by Senior Professor E.P.M. Rajaratne where he reviewed the book ’The Misfit Economy’ using his very own review technique of ABCDE-40. The Department Seminar encompasses many spheres including presenting concept papers, working research papers, review of articles and books. The session was an eye opener for all the staff members who were present at the seminar.
A Guest Lecture was held on the 2nd of August 2021 from 3.00 p.m. to 5.00 p.m. through the Zoom platform for the students who follow the OPM 3108 - Events Management course module of the Department of Operations Management. The Guest Lecture was conducted by Ms. Pamoda Jayasundera who is a Lecturer (Probationary) attached to the Department of Law, University of Perdeniya.

This session aimed to build awareness on the industry and career opportunities available for undergraduates who are specializing in Operations Management.
English for Managers Day
was successfully organized by the Department of Operations Management under AHEAD grant in collaboration with English Language Teaching Unit of the Faculty of Management on 25th February 2021 via zoom platform. The aim of this event was to enhance the English language proficiency of the undergraduates of the Faculty of Management, while helping them overcome their inhibitions in relation to using English and developing their confidence and creativity.
Enterprise Day
was successfully held on 14th February 2020. The programme was organized under the AHEAD grant of Department of Operations Management, Faculty of Management, University of Peradeniya. The main purpose of this event was to create a platform for the students who are specializing in Operations Management to sharpen their skills and knowledge related to innovations and creativeness.
A guest lecture was conducted for 300 level BBA students of the Faculty of Management, Univeristy of Peradeniya on 'Database Management System (DBMS) : A practical session' by Mr.Prabath Gunathilake, Lecturer, Department of Statistics & Computer Science, Faculty of Science, University of Peradeniya on 21st September 2020 at the University IT centre.

Colloquium of “Staff of Operations Research Talk (SORT)” the flagship event of Department of Operations Management was successfully held on 3.07. 2020 at the Faculty Board Room, Faculty of Management University of Peradeniya. Prof. E.M.A.S.B. Ekanayake, Acting Dean, Faculty of Management, University of Peradeniya, Dr. S. Maheshwaran, Head, Department of Operations Management and Head of Departments were graced the occasion.
A successful exhibition on the theme of ‘Lean Manufacturing’ was conducted by the fourth year students who are following the Lean Manufacturing course (OPM 401) offered by the Department of Operations Management on the 30th of August 2019 from 11.00 a.m. onwards.
Students who are following the Lean Manufacturing (OPM 401) course offered by the Department of Operations Management conducted a successful exhibition as a partial fulfilment of their continuous assessment evaluation on 5th June 2018 from 10.00 am onwards.
The exhibition was named “Lean World” and five groups presented in the exhibition under themes of Evolution of Lean, Seven Waste and Productivity, Lean Tools and Performance Enhancement, Culture of Lean and Lean and Sustainability.
