WORKSHOP ON PREPARING AND MARKING ASSESSMENTS

INTERNAL QUALITY ASSURANCE CELL (IQAC) OF THE FACULTY OF MANAGEMENT, UNIVERSITY OF PERADENIYA


The Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) of the Faculty of Management, University of Peradeniya has organized a workshop on ‘Preparing and Marking Assessments’ on 16th August 2024, at the Innovation-Co Creation Cell of the Faculty of Management, University of Peradeniya.

The resource person of the session was Senior Professor. D. S. N. P. Senarathne from the Department of Accounting, Faculty of Management Studies and Commerce, University of Sri Jayewardenepura.

As a faculty, that focuses on sustaining and enhancing high standards programme delivery and management, we believe that having well-defined Course Outcome Based Assessment (COBA) and marking rubrics, provide a structured framework for preparing and evaluating assessments, outlining specific criteria and standards that align with the course learning outcomes. Further, this interconnected framework ensures that assessments are fair and consistent and reflect the intended learning outcomes.

Accordingly, the expected learning outcomes of the session were as follows:

  1. Ensure assessments are aligned with course and programme learning outcomes,
  2. Ensure consistent and fair assessing (i.e., minimize subjective bias and increase transparency) of the assessments within and across different courses,
  3. Enhance the quality and usefulness of feedback provided to the students in continuous assessments,
  4. Improve the continuous professional development of lecturers,
  5. Assist faculty with quality assurance processes and accreditation requirements.

All permanent academics of the Faculty of Management as the target group have participated in the workshop. The workshop was coordinated by Mr. Chalith Kavinda on behalf of the IQAC.
