"Seminar on Preparing for a PhD"
Oraganized By Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) - Faculty Of Management

Pursuing a PhD in a world-class university demands a broadened worldview, rigorous academic research, critical thinking, and a deep understanding of methodologies. When it comes to methodologies, qualitative research allows us to explore a wide array of dimensions of the social world through methodologies that celebrate the richness, depth, nuance, context, multidimensionality, and complexity rather than being embarrassed or inconvenienced by them (Mason 2002). Intending to provide insight to young academics, especially those preparing for a PhD, a seminar on qualitative approaches to research and guidance for applying for PhDs in world-class universities was organised by the Faculty internal quality assurance cell. This seminar under the topic “Preparing for a PhD: A Qualitative Approach” was held on 17 th  March 2025 in the Conference Room, Faculty of Management.  A distinguished academic, Professor Danture Wickramasinghe attached to the Adam Smith Business School, University of Glasgow, UK is the resource person for the session. The seminar aimed to provide insights into the nature of research expected for a PhD in a renowned university and strategies for preparing for these academic expectations. Enthusiastic young academics from the Faculty of Management and invited young academics from the Faculty of Arts participated in the seminar.
