An awareness session on Student Mentoring for academic staff members was organized by the Student Affairs Committee of the Faculty of Management, University of Peradeniya on 10 th November 2022 at the Faculty Auditorium.
The main aim of this session was to lay the foundation knowledge on handling students’ mental state while enriching the role of an academic mentor. The session provided a solid knowledge base together with a set of skills that a mentor needs to inculcate in handling a mentee.
Prof. Athula Ekanayake, Dean, Faculty Management welcomed the gathering while highlighting the importance of the session for staff members.
Prof. Manoji Pathirage- Director, Student Support Services and Welfare Systems, University of Peradeniya, Dr. Sayuri Perera- Director, Counseling and Psychological Support Unit (CaPSU) University of Peradeniya and Dr Chandima Herath- Chief Medical Officer, Health Center, University of Peradeniya were the resource persons of the programme.
The staff members highlighted that the session was informative and interactive, and the insights gained during the session could be applied in handling mentees effectively.
