The Management Education Unit (MEdU) of the Faculty of Management, University of Peradeniya, successfully organized and conducted the inaugural Commerce Camp on the 12th of July 2023, from 08:00 to 13.30 at the Maliyadeva Boy's College, Kurunegala, with the participation of esteemed personnel from the Faculty of Management, including the Dean, Heads of the Departments, MEdU members, selected academic staff members, and a group of undergraduate students. Approximately 200 GCE Advanced Level Commerce students from various schools in Kurunegala District participated in the camp.
MEdU's primary objective is to supplement the existing educational system by equipping school students with the necessary tools, knowledge, and guidance to excel in their advanced-level examinations. In line with this objective, the first ever Commerce Camp has been organized to enhance students' soft skills, covering a wide range of critical aspects, such as teamwork and collaboration, leadership, negotiation, problem solving, time management, planning and organizing, creativity, critical thinking and adaptability, trial and error learning, artistic expression, confidence building, audience engagement, etc. By emphasizing these areas, the camp sought to nurture well-rounded individuals capable of thriving in diverse professional settings and the camp was concluded exceptionally well, leaving the participants highly satisfied with their experience.
