The Welcome Ceremony for the new entrants to the Postgraduate Programmes 2023-2024 Academic Year in the Postgraduate Unit of Faculty of Management, University of Peradeniya was successfully held on January 06, 2024 at the Auditorium of the Faculty of Management with the presence of new comers and the academic staff.
Professor Terrence Madhujith, Deputy Vice-Chancellor of the University of Peradeniya, was the Chief Guest, and the event was graced by Professor Ravi Kuruppuge, Dean of the Faculty of Management, Heads of the Academic Departments and Coordinators of the Units of the Faculty of Management and the academic and non-academic staff members of the Faculty of Management.
In the given speeches, Professor Madhujith and Professor Kuruppuge emphasized the importance of pursuing postgraduate studies in the current volatile socio-economic environment to upgrade the competencies to be in line with the top skills in the modern world of work. Also, they encouraged the students to be more enthusiastic and purposeful in their postgraduate studies.
Furthermore, Mr. Channa Gunawardane, CEO, Dankotuwa Porcelain PLC delivered a motivational speech by sharing his life experinces during his postgraduate studies and also he contended some valuable insights for the benefit of new comers to develop them as responsible professionals in the future.
To familiarize new entrants with the university system and procedures, several informative sessions were conducted during the orientation programme. An awareness raising session was conducted on the “Programme Regulations and Course Delivery” by Dr. Nuresh Eranda, Chairperson of the Faculty Higher Degrees Committee. Further, a session on “Learning Management System” was conducted by Mr. Amila Bandara, Chairperson of the Management Education Resource Centre. Also, Ms. Subhashini Weerakotuwa, Chairperson of the Centre for Skills for Life conducted a session on “Bridging the gap between industry and academia”. Moreover, Ms. Savindi Thirunika shared her postgraduate studies experience with new entrants as a representative from the 2022/2023 batch. Finally, an “Introduction of academic, administrative, and non-academic staff to the students and a questions and answer session” was coordinated by Mr. Sameera Fernando, MBA coordinator of the Postgraduate Unit.
Accordingly, the welcome ceremony and the orientation programme has made an immense contribution to commence the academic programmes for the new entrants from January 13, 2024 onwards.
