The Welcome Ceremony for the new entrants to the Postgraduate Programmes 2022-2023 Academic Year, Postgraduate Unit, Faculty of Management, University of Peradeniya was successfully conducted on 08th of January 2023 at the Auditorium of the Faculty of Management with the participation of 29 students together with the teaching panel of the Postgraduate Unit.
Professor M.D. Lamawansa, Vice-Chancellor of the University of Peradeniya, was the Chief Guest, and the event was graced by Professor W.M.T. Madhujith, Deputy Vice-Chancellor of the University of Peradeniya, Professor E.M.A.S.B. Ekanayake, Dean of the Faculty of Management, Heads of the Academic Departments and Units of the Faculty of Management and the academic and non- academic staff members of the Faculty of Management.
In the given speeches, Professor M.D. Lamawansa, Professor W.M.T. Madhujith and Professor E.M.A.S.B. Ekanayake emphasized the importance of persistence and determination in the face of obstacles and setbacks and the students were encouraged to remind themselves of their purpose and the passion that led them to pursue their postgraduate studies in the first place. They encouraged the students to learn from their mistakes and use those as opportunities to grow and improve.
Furthermore, Professor Dileep De Silva, Director, Career Guidance Unit of the University of Peradeniya, delivered an inspirational speech on “Balancing academic, professional and personal life”. He contended valuable insights for the benefit of postgraduates to develop them as responsible citizens in the future.
To familiarize postgraduates with the university system and procedures, several informative sessions were conducted in the afternoon session on the same day. An awareness-raising session was conducted on the “Introduction of Programme Regulations and Awareness on Course Delivery” by Prof. R.H. Kuruppuge. Further, a session on “Introduction of Learning Management System” was conducted by Mr. A.M.A.S.M. Bandara, Chairman, Management Education Resource Centre. Finally, an “Introduction of academic, administrative, and non-academic staff to the students and a Questions and Answer Session” was coordinated by Mr. T.S.S. Fernando.
Furthermore, the senior students of the postgraduate unit organized management games for building a sense of teamwork and collaboration among the new comers, who came from diverse backgrounds and experience. These management games helped to facilitate communication and cooperation and build trust among the new students, which set a positive tone for commencing the academic programs from January 14 th 2023 onwards.
